- Nissan Frontier Pro recently presented a plug-in hybrid Frontier based on the Nissan Dongfeng Z9. Although it intends to export the truck, it will initially be offered in China.

Nissan recently unveiled the Frontier Pro, their first plug-in hybrid truck, and it’s truly a significant deal. This vehicle was unveiled at Auto Shanghai 2025, combines a modern hybrid heart with a strong appearance. Nissan says we should expect it to emerge in other parts of the world as well, as it was built on the Dongfeng Z9 platform in collaboration with Dongfeng. However, due to hefty tariffs, not in the United States just yet.
It is on par with industry titans like BYD and GWM due to its powerful 300 kW (around 402 horsepower) hybrid drivetrain. Performance isn’t the only thing that matters — the Frontier Pro is packed with technology. A sleek 10-inch digital gauge cluster, a 14.6-inch touchscreen, and even optional massaging front seats are available. Convenience is emphasized with the automatic retractable bed cover.
Nissan intends to sell the vehicle to several foreign countries, with the exception of the United States because of current tariffs, and production is scheduled to start in China later in 2025. The Frontier Pro is a component of Nissan’s larger plan to introduce ten new energy cars in China by 2027. It is backed by a $1.4 billion investment meant to revitalize the company’s position in the quickly changing Chinese auto industry.​
Therefore, the Frontier Pro is more than simply a stylish truck. It is a declaration from Nissan that they take electrification seriously and want to remain competitive in the rapidly changing pickup market.
