Mercedes-Benz’s entry-level model is set to become its most advanced EV. Now unveiled in production form, the 2026 CLA debuts as an EV first, with a hybrid to follow. This applies both to its launch timeline, the electric variant arriving around nine months before its gas-powered counterpart and to its optimized MMA platform.
A New Era for the CLA
The 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA shows up as an electric vehicle this time, making it the brand’s most advanced entry-level model. It is built on the latest MMA platform, and now features an extended wheelbase of 2.4 inches, a 1.1-inch taller height, and a total body length increase of 1.3 inches for accommodating the underfloor battery.
Striking Exterior and Interior Design
The CLA’s exterior maintains its signature sloped roof and four-door coupe styling. The fascia is highlighted with star-shaped DRLs and a continuous rear light bar with illuminated louvers. Inside, a trio of digital screens grace the dashboard, including a 10.3-inch instrument cluster, a 14.0-inch touchscreen, and an optional 14.0-inch passenger-side display. A standard panoramic glass roof enhances rear-seat visibility.
Powertrain and Performance
The CLA uses an 800-volt architecture, enabling 320 kW fast charging. The 85.0-kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt battery powers a 268-hp rear motor with a two-speed transmission. A dual-motor 349-hp model bolts 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds. While the single-motor version achieves it in 6.6 seconds. The estimated WLTP ranges are 367-418 miles for the CLA250+ and 354-407 miles for the CLA350 4Matic.
Upcoming Hybrid Variant
A 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid, producing 27 hp from its electric motor, will arrive in 2026 with front- and all-wheel-drive options. The CLA EV is expected in U.S. showrooms by fall 2025. It is likely to be priced under $60,000, competing with the Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4.
